Getting to the core and adding the most essential elements needed, was at the heart of this project. The existing interior was fully stripped to reveal the purest space and a prominent concrete beam, once the division between an apartment and a studio flat that have now been united.
'We no longer live in simple terms or places. Life is a more complex struggle now. It is now valiant to be simple: a courageous thing to even want to be simple. It is a spiritual thing to comprehend what simplicity means.’
To this minimalist canvas, a limited palette of honest materials was added. Each material speaks for itself. The kitchen deliberately got an industrial inox look to underline its functionality. A refined plywood volume is a finely proportioned barrier to the more intimate sleeping quarters. The customised furniture from the Nomad collection in sturdy oak and soft Belgian linen adds to the reduced, almost spiritual atmosphere.
